In the movie the parties both had different ideas to improve the country. The republican party run by Andy Boone is very industrial based. He believes in creating an employed nation with hopes to make a modernized and advanced country. Boone would like to strengthen his army force, and protect many things for example; travelling rights for his citizens and multiple jobs such as coal production. Also, Boone wants to make gay marriage legal, lower taxes, and create more jobs in general. On the other hand, Donald Greenleaf who runs the democratic party, is more people oriented and wants to make America environmentally friendly, and easier for people to live. Some of Greenleaf’s ideas were to provide affordable health care, equal rights for everyone, making gay marriage legal in all states, lowering taxes, and creating more jobs.
As for similarities, both candidates had a few great ideas that were the same. One of them being; creating more jobs for citizens. This is always needed to decrease a country’s unemployment rate, yet it also increases the amount of money the country makes! Another one was to lower taxes. If the taxes are lower, the citizens will be satisfied and will start buying more since it would be cheaper. In the long run this would make more money for the country while also providing a happy atmosphere for citizens. Finally another similarity was that both candidates wanted to make gay marriage legal. This would make the LGBT community very happy and make sure the country has equal rights for all people, lastly, it reassures that they accept everyone, and that is a good reputation for future immigration. |
It is obvious that both Staff Leaders and Media had a huge roll in “Swing Vote”. Both candidates have a staff leader that will do anything to win the election. The staff leaders tell the candidates what to say/do to win Bud Johnson’s vote. Andy Boone’s staff advisor, Martin Fox, convinced Andy to invite Bud to his fancy airplane, give him a beer, talk to him in “football” language, and send him home in limo! Finally, every time Bud would say something that he liked, Boone’s staff leader would make Boone run a campaign on it! For example, he was told to run a campaign about gay marriage and environmental protection. Donald Greenleaf’s staff leader, Art Crumb, was the exact same. He told Greenleaf to invite Bud’s favourite singer to a dinner hosted for him, and made Bud’s favourite foods for the dinner as well. He also convinced Donald to make a campaign about life (since Bud mentioned once that he was pro life). And finally, Art Crumb told Greenleaf to go fishing with Bud because he knew it was Bud’s passion. The staff leaders jobs were to organize events, help promote the campaign and influence the presidential candidate as much as they could.
